Professional Certification in Clinical Skills
This Certification is designed to equip mental health workers, who work with children and adolescents, with relevant and practical skills and knowledge to effectively identify and manage challenges related to mental health issues in youths.
This candidate must demonstrate effective clinical skills & knowledge related to the following areas of therapy:
- Psychopathology: Youth Mental Health
- Trauma-Informed Practice
- Special Education Needs
- Addictions
- Crisis Intervention
Clinical Skills Level 1
Trainees must be able to demonstrate clinical skills during individual therapy in at least 3 of the 5 subject areas and document their sessions in a professional case management system.

Criteria for Clinical Skills Level 1
EDUCATION:
A minimum of a Diploma in Counselling, or related field plus one year of experience in counselling.
TRAINING:
Must have completed 50 hours of workshops in Counselling.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
Trainees are required to complete 20 hours of supervised sessions over a 24-week period.
Trainees must practice the skills (which they have learned from training workshops) in at least 3 areas of the 5 subject areas during these therapy sessions.

Clinical Skills Level 2
Trainees must be able to demonstrate clinical skills during individual therapy in at least 4 of the 5 areas subject areas and document their sessions in a professional case management system.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor degree in a mental health/counselling field or a Bachelor degree in an unrelated with 2 years of experience in counselling work.
TRAINING:
Must have completed 100 hours of workshops in counselling.
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
Trainees are required to complete 40 hours of supervised sessions.
Trainees must practice the skills (which they have learned from training workshops) in at least 4 subject areas during these therapy sessions. .

EDUCATION:
Master degree in a Behavioural Health field – e.g. Counselling, Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing etc

7 years of experience in a clinical counselling practice.
20 hours of supervision a year with supervisor reports for 5 years.
TRAINING:
Must have completed 200 hours of workshops in counselling
PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
Trainees are required to complete 80 hours of supervised sessions.
Trainees must practice the skills (which they have learned from training workshops) in all 5 subject areas of clinical skills during their therapy sessions.
EXAMINATION:
Score at least 80% of 100 question Clinical Skills Practitioner Exam..
